Commerce Township has begun a multi-year Sidewalk Repair Program to help maintain safe and walk-able sidewalks throughout the community. The program officially started in 2025 and will continue through 2029, with the township divided into five sidewalk districts. Each year, one district will be inspected.
How the process works:
• Inspections: Township inspectors will review sidewalks in the scheduled district during the spring and summer. Any damaged sidewalk sections (“flags”) that need repair will be marked with spray paint.
• Property Notices: After inspections, homeowners will receive a property sketch showing the defect locations, the estimated number of repairs needed, and a cost estimate.
• Repair Options: Residents can choose to hire their own contractor and complete the repairs themselves, or participate in the Township’s repair program, which will be publicly bid to ensure competitive pricing.
2025 Program Timeline (affecting construction in 2026):
• November 2025: Township bids the project to contractors
• By end of December 2025: Property owners receive cost estimates and repair options
• January–March 2026: Required Township resolutions and public hearings
• May 2026: Construction expected to begin
• Summer 2026: Work estimated to take about 2–3 months
Before construction starts, any marked areas will be repainted if the original inspection markings have faded.
The link below shows that Golf Manor is in the blue district, which is scheduled for inspection starting in 2026. Based on the timeline, my understanding is that any actual construction or repairs would likely begin in 2027.
